The Cameroon music industry faced major challenges last year due to covid pandemics but Thankfully, there has been a slew of good songs released. As usual 2021 was packed with under-appreciated and emotionally resonant bangers.

1) Mr. Leo – Ji ft Nectar
Mr Leo’s “Ji” represents a typical example of a hit that was loved by many, but was easily forgotten. “Ji” is an extract from his highly anticipated debut album titled “Lion Of Africa (JEEY)”, drawn from deep African roots. Mr. Leo alongside Necta gave us this enthusiastic portion with a passionate video that most Africans can relate to. Nevertheless, it didn’t get the entire vibe it needed.
2) Awu – Mola
Awu went hard on this one as he has always done. “Mola” is a searing Makossa fusion that can make one start nodding before releasing him/herself. He took out time to dish out to his fans as he did for “Yayayo” and “Dege Dege”. Not only was it melodious, but carried a meaning along. But still didn’t get the attention it deserved. Awu can even be crowned for being one of the most underrated Cameroonian artists.
3) Ulanda – In My Heart Ft. Tzy Panchak
Ulanda also falls in that category of underrated Cameroonian artists. “Mama Makossa” as she is popularly referred to is the new school of makossa in Cameroon. Her songs are so pleasing to the ears. And never has she failed to transmit a message through her songs. The manner in which she blends in is so magnificent. Her song titled “In My Heart” featuring Tzy Panchak, is another underrated song of 2021. Yes, it was well anticipated but didn’t get the vibe it deserved.
4) Vivid – Ya mo
Fourth on the list is Vivid, signed under iLion Entertainment (ILE). The fusion of Afro-pop, dancehall, and Makossa has been a regular artist on this list since his prominence in 2019. There’s no doubt that Vivid is a good artist, his music speaks volumes. Vivid has even gone ahead to established the genre “MakoRnB” to represent the style of music he is creating. This combination which his fans have grown to love. His hit “YA mo”, didn’t get the National recognition it had to. Not forgetting that he went all the way to Dubai to shoot the music video.
5) REMii – Mon Amour
REMii is one of the few Cameroonian fast-rising artists who actually know what they are doing. REMii is signed under the record label multi-award-winning actor Kang Quintus called Kang Quintus Music. His excellent performance so far may be attributed to the actor Kang Quintus. This is so because he has played his part in bringing the young artist closer to A list artist. REMii has even gone a long way to feature Ko-C, and definitely, we should be expecting more A-list collaboration from him. Nevertheless, his songs are underrated, especially this “Mon Amour”.“Mon Amour” is a beautiful piece of audio perfection with heartfelt vocals and lyrics.
6) Blaise B – Allo
In spite been an A-list artist, most of Blaise B’s songs are underrated. The majority of his songs do not get the views they deserve. One may be wondering why an artist like Blaise B doesn’t get a million views on his YouTube channel when he releases his songs. “ALLO” had the power to reach other nations with its powerful melody and a message that every lover can resonate and relate with. But just like most of his songs, it was vibed for a few weeks and abandoned after that. Even with a good promotional strategy, Allo was still forgotten.
7) Asaba – DodoKido
There’s is no doubt that Asaba is special. She’s one of those artists to watch out for this 2022. Normally, most of her songs are supposed to be hits. She’s a true definition of an artist who has a passion for singing. Dodokido is that song that can be said to be flawless. The depth of the lyrics matched with the sweet melody of the entire duration of the song makes it worthy of radio play, club play, roadside play. Shockingly it wasn’t recognized to that level.
8) GASHA – JouPou
It’s been a long time we heard from Gasha. Earlier she had promised us an Ep/Album which till now we are still waiting for. Nevertheless, before the end of last year, Gasha released a song titled “JouPou”. It was anticipated by everyone reason been Gasha had kept her fans waiting for too long. Behold, still can’t imagine an artist like Gasha will get just 5900 views on YouTube (Village people at work). JouPou is no doubt a great song. From the first 15 seconds of the song, as it signs in, you can already feel a captivating hold as the song rides till the end. Gasha makes you feel good music at its finest. JouPou has all the elements of a Cameroonian hit that can cross borders but seems like it didn’t even leave the studio.
9) Jeeno – C’est toi
Jeeno’s C’est toi is another underrated Cameroonian song of 2021. Many people may love this song when they listen to it. But equally as many people have no idea who Jeeno is, or what this song “C’est toi” is all about, they can’t really relate to.“C’est toi” is a beautiful piece of audio perfection with heartfelt vocals and lyrics. The song just rides, and towards the end Jeeno turns it up like a rockstar and hits some sweet notes before descending gradually and letting the song slide to a glorious finish. Now the question is, why is this song not a national romance anthem?
10) Zee JM – Danger
Zee JM is the new next big thing in the Cameroon rap sector. And his song “Danger” was a fantastic gift to the airwaves, but it just faded away unappreciated. His sound, his visual interpretations, and even lyrical content were an unprecedented rush of uniqueness, and “Danger” was a banging piece of all these elements, which maintained a sweet authentic vibe. Zee’s “Danger” is another cool kids vibe that popped off on the radio but just never made it to the clubs and national stations where it deserved to live and breathe.
