[Profile]: Soleil’ Cameroon’s Polished and Artistic Jazz Talent
Many music mavens, jazz fans, or otherwise know of Cameroon jazz legends like Manu Dibango, Francis Bebey and Richard Bona, but a new generation is bringing refreshing new talent to the genre. Up-and-coming talent like Bass Guitarist Timothy Mongombe who popularly known as Soleil is uncovered as one of the best talents to watch. It will probably be unnecessary to overstate that jazz has seen better days in the popular consciousness of Cameroonians. There is little or no concerted effort to promote Jazz but here is the new hope we can lean on.
He played percussions for choral groups and sang as well started a career his music career in 2010 as a singer at the popular Snack Bar 3813 in Tiko. He later played in many cabarets where he took interest and perfected his skills of playing as a Bass Guitarist. Currently plays at the Buea based Lux Dream Lounge Cabaret.
He is set to release his maiden album titled Motimbeli (with the Njoku jazz band)
He has been hailed by music lovers in Buea as “the next great male jazz singer,”
