Popular Nigerian Politician, his Wife and a Doctor found guilty of organ harvesting in UK
Sonia Ekweremdu, their daughter who dropped out of school due to kidney disease, was found not guilty.
Popular Nigerian senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, his wife Beatrice Ekweremadu, 56, and Dr. Obinna Obeta, 50, were found guilty of conspiring to obtain a young Nigerian man’s organ for their daughter’s kidney transplant, according to a UK court.
Meanwhile, Sonia Ekweremdu, their daughter who dropped out of school due to kidney disease, was found not guilty.
According to reports, a street vendor from Lagos was brought to the UK in 2022 to help the daughter of the former Senate Vice President, receive an organ transplant. The victim then fled to a police station, screaming that he did not understand the contract’s terms or how the donation was to be made out of fear for his life.
The jury found that the man had received an improper reward for the exercise. The Ekweremadus claimed they were the victims of a scam while denying any wrongdoing. But the jury discovered that the wealthy attorney avoided having any personal interactions with the victim out of fear for his political future.
Reports have it that they all will officially receive their court sentence in May 2023.
