The ode to black women “Brown Skin Girl”, the most streamed song by women on Apple Music these past two years, has finally an official video directed by JENN NKIRU, a female Nigerian-British director.
On “Good Morning America“, Beyoncé said it was really important to her to show all shades of brown skin girls. So apart of her first daughter “Blue Ivy” singing with her, her last daughter “Rumi”, and her well-known mother TINA KNOWLES LAWSON, she invited different female black icons like her best friend and former Destiny Childs’ bandmate KELLY ROWLAND, the Oscar-winning LUPITA NYONGO’O, and the super top model NAOMIE CAMPBELL.
JENN NKIRU said the music was an extension of how she viewed Black people and how she viewed herself.
“I just think Brown Skin, dark skin, is so beautiful. I just see the divinity in it. It’s gorgeous. This was meant to be an affirmation of that. That’s the intent of it to be an affirmation” she explained.
