Cameroon beats Comoros and secures a quarter final place
Cameroon makes it through to the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 following an eventful 2-1 victory over Comoros. With Comoros in a goalkeeper crisis, they had to improvise an outfield player as a goalkeeper.
Comoros defender, Chaker Alhadhur stepped up to wear the gloves and his performance was the big talking point of the match. Even though at one point the Comoros hero forgot he was a goalkeeper and not a defender. This led to Cameroon’s second goal from Aboubakar.
Cameroon scored once in each half — through Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubakar — to overcome a stubborn Comoros side that had to field a player as its goalkeeper following a COVID-19 crisis in the team.
While, barely six minutes into the game Comoros captain, Nadjim Abdou was sent off the game. Nevertheless, Ekambi, the Villarreal striker, scored the opening goal on 29 minutes.
To many, the Comoros goalkeeper deserved man of the match. But rather, Comoros Striker Youssouf M’Changama gave a strike worthy of claiming the TotalEnergies Man of The Match award. He scored one of the best goals ever registered in the TotalEnergiesAfcon history.
Cameroon will face Gambia, the giant killers who eliminated Guinea 1-0 earlier in the day, in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
