Ekondo Titi, Ndian Division faces another hit as the Divisional officer and 6 others have been confirmed dead following an explosive attack. This unbearable act happened today Wednesday 02th of March at around 11:30 am. And at that time of the incident,  the DO Timothée Aboloa, and Mayor Kenneth Nanji were on an economic tour in the municipality. The attack happened along the Ekondo Titi – Bekora road in Ndian Division.

The Divisional Officer of Ekondo Titi, Timothée Aboloa, and the Mayor, Nanji Kenneth have  have been confirmed  dead after their vehicle got on an explosive device planted on the road. They died alongside a driver, Meh Stanley, a CPDM Section President Ebeku William, and two bodyguards.

It has also been reported that the explosives hit a second vehicle in the convoy. Killing an officer and wounding several other persons. This amounting the death toll to 7 confirmed people. Rumours also  have it that the chief of Bekora village, where the attack reportedly occurred, was injured but had not been found yet.

The government blames the attack on separatist fighters. Whom according to them had buried six explosives on the drive way of the four-vehicle convoy, targeting the administrators.

The governor of the South West Region, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai has exhorted everyone to remain calm, following today’s deadly attack by suspected separatists in Ekondo Titi, South West Region. Speaking on CRTV, the governor maintains that everything is under government’s care.

According to the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy for Africa, CHRDA, by targeting the DO and Mayor’s vehicle, the perpetrators, alleged to be separatist fighters, were targeting civilians.

“IEDs must not target civilians or civilian objects. Destroying the DO’s vehicle does not give you a military advantage, so the vehicle is not a military object,” CHRDA wrote on Facebook seven hours after the incident.

The two men have become the latest from a list of other Administrators that have died in the course of the crisis.
