Presently, Vincent Aboubakar has beaten Football Legend and present FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o record as highest AFCON competition goal scorer. Samuel Eto’o was the record holder for the most goals scored by a Cameroonian at a single Africa Cup of Nations, having struck five times in Ghana back in 2008. But with Aboubakar’s immense output at the AFCON 2021 he has gone ahead of the legend. Eto’o, however, still holds the record for the top scorer in AFCON history, with the retired forward having amassed an impressive 18 goals in the tournament overall.

Aboubakar is even threatening to beat Egypt’s Hossam Hassan and South Africa’s Benni McCarthy at AFCON 1998. McCarthy is sitting on seven goals in a single AFCON tournament. And he’s still the record holder in the entire continent in that regard. He scored all seven goals during the 1998 edition of AFCON in Burkina Faso. And no other player has managed to break that record to date.
