NCC Strongly Warns Media Organs in Cameroon with Potential Heavy Sanctions

The National Communication Council promises to implement heavy sanctions on media outlets, promoters and professionals promoting LGBTQ+ (Homosexuality) in Cameroon

Cameroon’s president of the National Communication Council (NCC) Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, in a public release, gave a warning to all media outlets in Cameroon who are linked in any way to broadcasting and promoting programs associated with homosexuality.

The NCC said they have noticed scenes of homosexuality aired in films by foreign editors, adding that they are progressively being found in cartoons that children mostly watch.

As the LGBTQ+ community becomes widely accepted throughout the world, media companies like Disney are trying to represent them with the airing of Cartoons like Miraculous Lady Bug, in which two ladies can be seen kissing.

Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu, President of the NCC said, for a while now they have confirmed the presence of scenes of homosexuality being transmitted by foreign editors in films. The NCC confirmed this can be increasingly be seen or found in cartoons that mostly watched by children.

Evidently, as the homosexuality community worldwide has been extensively accepted, some media companies allegedly represent them by broadcasting images, especially cartoons with such content. Companies like Disney have been airing cartoons like Miraculous Lady Bug, which contains content like two ladies seen kissing.

The publication made by the President of NCC on Tuesday is to remind Cameroonians and the rest of the world where the NCC stands as far as homosexuality is concerned in Cameroon. Based on this regard, the NCC is bent on ensuring social communication freedom as stipulated in articles three and four of the January 23, 2012 decree that reorganizes the National Communication Council on the one hand, and ensuring the respect of people’s dignity, especially that of children and youth in the media sector.

Based on the legal power bestowed on the NCC by the laws of Cameroon, The NCC reminds media outlets and promoters in Cameroon that, it is against professional ethics to promote, air, or broadcast images associated with homosexuality and as such, it is prohibited in Cameroon by the Penal Code.

The NCC calls upon Media outlets or organs, involved in promoting or broadcasting images with homosexuality content to bring down such images or shall be severely sanctioned.
