The Japoma Stadium in Douala has received a lot of criticism from teams playing there. And has been termed one of the worst stadium of AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
But after the series of criticisms, intensive work have been going on to bring the stadium back to standard. The Grass Lawn maintenance has been completed at the Japoma stadium in Douala for the match Cote D’ivoire Vs Algeria.
The governor of the littoral region talking to CRTV, debunks social media speculations on the transfer of AFCON 2021 games from Japoma to other venues.
Also, the President of Local Organising Committee,Mr Samuel Ivaha Diboua, assures Japoma Stadium is back in the game. He said; “Japoma stadium in Douala will host all matches scheduled for AFCON 2021. Experts are working on the turf. No game will be displaced”
On the other hand, FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o claps back at all those saying matches will be shifted from Japoma Stadium to other stadiums.
He said;
“I have nothing to say about the Japoma stadium, but I just want to say to the officials of the Algerian or Ivorian national teams that even the president of FIFA wanted to change the date and the place of the AFCON and he not did succeed. We are not here to please anyone or to give gifts”.
Just some hours ago, The Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire had a pre-match walk on the playground of Japoma Stadium in Douala, for their do or die game against defending champions Algeria.
In conclusion, Ivory coast will play Algeria while Sierra Leone will play Equatorial Guinea at 5pm. Gambia play Tunisia and Mali play Mauritania at exactly 8pm.
