Meet Harris Sikah, the future of Cameroon’s AfroPop

Sika Harris Bronson (born in 1994), known professionally as Harris Sikah, is undoubtedly one of the main acts on the Cameroonian music scene. The singer and songwriter describes his sound as being pretty much versatile with no particular genre as he started off raping and later graduated to a lot of different stuff. His love for family inspires and gives him the drive to keep going, while seeking to reach out, inspire and touch the hearts of others with his art.

EARLY LIFE

Harris Sikah was born 08th August 1994 to Cameroonian parents, natives of Nso in the North West region. Raised in Kumbo, Harris spent most of his childhood alongside his parents and siblings. Coming from a middle-class background, he was raised in the Christian faith.
At a very tender age, Harris developed an addictive habit of always listening to music. Coming from a non musical family, Harris has owned up to the fact that the love for music grew on him. He could always be heard shouting at the top of his voice and beating on the kitchen table, trying to sound like “Richard kings” who he very much admired.
Even though the dream of one day being a musician seemed so impossible, he never stopped writing song lyrics, poems and novels. Little Harris knew he could sing since the age of 12, and in as much as singing made him happy, it also made him sad since he knew his dream of one day being a musician was unattainable looking at his family’s struggling background.

Education

Harris Sikah‘s parents ensured that he received the best form of education their income could afford. Thus, he studied at GBHS Kumbo, a government public secondary institution in 2007 where he obtained his O’ level with good grades.
In 2010, he recieved a scholarship to study at the St. Peters College Kumbo where he obtained his A Levels (arts inclined) including ICT. While in 2013, Harris had a Bachelors Degree in ICT at the University Of Yaounde. He went ahead in 2017 to acquire an Online Bachelor of Applied Science in Internet and Web Development.

Career

Ever since Harris discovered his passion for music, he steadily did everything he could to always create music. He started unprofessional music at age sixteen, making his own beats and investigating music production after coming in touch with “FL STUDIO” a beat-making software. As a high school student, he spent his leisure hours composing original songs. He also thrilled his classmates with freestyle during lunch break.
After his degree in 2013, he kept on creating music during this period, refining his sound in the process. In 2017 after the release of his first official single “Happy Day”, Harris proved beyond doubt that indeed he was a talented young artist with a promising future.  He instantly got the attention of fans who admired his craft and encouraged him to keep creating more music.
Harris Sikah later came into the limelight and later collaborated on the Ballerz Music crew’s “Hambok EP” and viral hit song “Mini Mini”.

So far, Harris has released the following tracks:

Talking about the release of his latest track  “Viban”, he started;

“I’m really obsessed with bringing in more light into the world through my music. That, I believe, is the only way to make a difference while being myself. I want people to feel something different because we are so love deficient and if people can experience the same feelings I feel while creating my art, it will be a start towards a positive timeline. There are moments when you just want to cry, emotions pushing you to tears; certain sounds, such as the piano on “Viban” gives you chills”

His latest single “Viban” is already available on all streaming platforms and portrays a very unique talent.
