The Cameroon born rapper Blueprint Hakeem in his third studio project “Disciple Music EP“, pays homage to his hip-hop role models
One could be tempted to miss the days of listening to music on cd players through loudspeakers while doing home chores or listening on a Walkman through headphones in a taxi on the way to Commercial Avenue. This was an era where Baggy Jeans was still a thing, and hip-hop dance battle competitions organized at the Franco-Cameroon Alliance halls. Blueprint Hakeem in this Ep, does an amazing job of incorporating the feeling of an era into contemporary Hip-hop, R&B, and Afro-pop vibes.
Made up of six songs, with raps deftly executed, life experiences are tied into a swirl – the personal and the political. When the Ep kicks off, one can quickly get captivated by the rapper’s deep vocals that will make hardcore rap sound like a lullaby. His music is actively less aggressive in sound, and one might say his flows and melodies are influenced by Nas and M.I, accompanied by solid kick drums and teasing baselines.
