The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began her four-day kitchen stint on Thursday, May 11 and ended on Monday, May 15, cooking almost 100 pots of meals. Hilda attempted to break the 100-hour mark, but nearly seven hours were removed from her final total.  Reason been that she took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early in the endeavor.

Guinness World Records in a statement on its website and all social media platforms, declared, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”

According to Guinness, “with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt”.

With a total cooking time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda beat the previous record of 87 hours 45mins. Which was set by Indian chef, Lata Tondon in 2019.

Congratulations Hilda
