After a two-year hiatus, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards was finally held. The recipients of the 2022 CAF Awards were announced on Thursday, July 21st 2022 at Morocco’s Capital Rabat. With the highlights of the even surrounding Senegal, Sadio Mane and Asisat Oshoala.
Senegal won almost everything at the CAF Awards 2022. From the title of “Best Player” to the “Coach of the Year” and the “Best Team”, the African champions have left only crumbs to the competitors.
Bayern Munich player Sadio Mane was crowned African Player of the Year (Men). Mane is the second player from Senegal to win the award after El Hadji Diouf won it in 2001 and 2022.
Meanwhile Asisat Oshoala clinched her 5th title as African Player of the Year (Women). The 27-year-old Oshoala clasped the coveted award ahead of Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon and Inter Milan) and Zambia international Grace Chanda (Zambia and BIIK Kazygurt).
Another point worth mentioning was the Co-Host of the CAF 2022 Awards SOPHY AIIDA. Even though Cameroon didn’t bring home any award, their host was the talk of the event. Sophy Aiida was Cameroon own award at the just ended CAF award in Morocco. She was the English speaking female, Co-host and her presentation was out of this world.
